Dr Thoukididou is a London trained Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon with extensive experience in the assessment and treatment of colorectal and general surgical conditions.
Graduating with Honours in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Nottingham in 2013, Dr Thoukididou also completed an intercalated degree in surgical anatomy. She undertook specialist surgical training at St George’s, Kingston and Croydon Hospitals, gaining broad experience in general, emergency, upper gastrointestinal and colorectal surgery before being awarded her Certificate of Completion of Training in General and Colorectal Surgery, as well as the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. She subsequently undertook advanced subspecialty training in colorectal and pelvic floor surgery at Guys’ and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London.
As a specialist colorectal surgeon, she has specific expertise in surgery for bowel cancer, with a focus to a holistic approach to patient care aiming to achieve cure. She believes collaborative working between surgeons, oncologists and patients is critical to achieving the best results for patients diagnosed with bowel cancer. She applies this same diligence to treatment of benign (non-cancerous) conditions, ensuring the best surgical outcomes for all of her patients.
Her specialist interests include minimally invasive surgery (robotic and laparoscopic). She performs most major and minor surgery with these keyhole approaches, allowing patients to experience less pain, recover faster and have much smaller scars whilst maintaining the quality of treatment and their quality of life.
Dr Thoukididou is trained in diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy. Colonoscopy is critical in diagnosing many bowel problems, and her experience means she can support patients throughout their journey. Advances in these techniques have allowed some individuals to be treated without invasive surgery, and Dr Thoukididou is excited to make these treatments available to more patients in Cyprus.
She also has an interest in benign proctology (the treatment of haemorrhoids, perianal fistula disease, anal fissures). She offers individualised treatment options depending on the patient’s specific symptoms. Furthermore Dr Thoukididou treats pelvic floor disorders (including rectal prolapse, incontinence, difficulty in defecation and anal pain). Using techniques such as endoanal ultrasound, anorectal physiology and biofeedback, she is able to support patients with a range of surgical and non-surgical treatments to improve their symptoms and quality of life.
Alongside her clinical practice, Dr Thoukididou has a strong academic background. She has published research in leading international surgical journals, including Annals of Surgery and the British Journal of Surgery, and has presented her research at national and international colorectal meetings. Her research interests have included colorectal cancer diagnosis, rectal cancer surgery and the surgical management of haemorrhoids. Most recently she presented her work at the European Society of Coloproctology conference in Paris in 2025.
Dr Thoukididou aims to create a relaxed and supportive environment where patients feel listened to and comfortable discussing their symptoms. She takes a patient-centred approach to surgical care. She believes that a thorough assessment, clear explanation of the diagnosis and treatment options, and shared decision-making are essential to achieving the best possible outcome. Where surgery is appropriate, she aims to use the least invasive and most appropriate treatment for each individual patient.
Originally from Cyprus, Dr Thoukididou speaks Greek, English and Spanish. She combines her extensive experience within the UK healthcare system with a compassionate and approachable manner, with the aim of providing every patient with high-quality, evidence-based surgical care tailored to their individual needs.
